Choose a notes workflow for different devices

Updated 7 October 2026 · CrossDevApps

A cross-platform notes workflow should fit how you capture, use and preserve information on each device. CrossPin provides Pins shared between paired Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android devices, without a CrossPin account. It suits moving selected notes and links between your devices. Start by deciding whether you need a quick handoff, ongoing local notes or a separate long-term archive.

Match the workflow to the job

Before choosing where a note belongs, ask what you will do with it next:

These jobs can overlap. A note can begin on a phone, become part of a document on a computer, and end up in your normal archive. Deciding where the final copy belongs helps you avoid relying on a temporary handoff as the only record.

Count devices before choosing a plan

Free supports up to two total devices. A Windows laptop and an iPhone use both places, as do a Mac and an Android phone. Premium supports up to five total devices, including the purchase device, and adds drawing and attachments.

Count every device you intend to pair, including a second computer or tablet. You do not need a CrossPin account, but Premium payment uses an Apple or Google store account. Current purchase choices and restoration details are on the billing page.

Make the handoff deliberate

After installing CrossPin on supported devices, pair them with the QR code or six-digit code. Use a short sample note first so you can recognise it on the receiving device. Then establish a simple routine: capture the information, add enough context to understand it later, and check that the receiving device has the current version before using it.

For copied text and links, paste into a Pin yourself. CrossPin does not automatically monitor and sync your system clipboard. The text and link guide explains the complete handoff.

Sync requires a connection. Local editing works offline, while Premium periodically requires internet access for verification. Consider those conditions if you regularly work without a connection for long periods.

Decide what you need from storage

CrossPin saves Pins on your devices. Transfers use the local network when available or an internet relay when needed, with Pin content and attachments encrypted between paired devices during transfer. This does not mean all local files have separate CrossPin encryption; local content relies on your device's storage protections.

CrossPin is not a cloud-backup service. A second paired device is also not a substitute for a backup: changes such as deletion can reach other connected devices. Read local notes and sync and data controls before relying on the workflow for important information.

Check availability

The downloads page lists the platforms and system requirements. Choose the version for your computer and phone, then connect them in CrossPin.
