Send text and links between your phone and computer

Updated 7 October 2026 · CrossDevApps

To send text from your phone to your computer with CrossPin, pair the devices, paste the text into a Pin, and open that Pin on the other device when connected. You choose what to paste. CrossPin does not automatically sync your clipboard or transfer content directly between system clipboards. The same workflow works in the other direction, from a computer to a phone.

Prepare your two devices

CrossPin supports Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Check the downloads page for your platform and system requirements.

Once CrossPin is installed on both devices, use the app's pairing flow to scan a QR code or enter the six-digit code. No CrossPin account is required. Pair only devices you control and trust, and keep the invitation private.

Free connects up to two total devices, so one phone and one computer fit within that limit. Premium supports up to five total devices and adds drawing and attachments. Read Free and Premium details if your workflow involves more devices.

  1. Copy the text or link from its source on the first device.
  2. Open CrossPin and use a paste action to put it into a Pin. Add a short description if the link will be hard to recognise later.
  3. Keep the paired devices connected so the Pin can sync.
  4. Open the Pin on the receiving device. Copy the text from CrossPin and paste it into the app where you need it.

For example, you can copy a research link on an iPhone, paste it into CrossPin, then open the Pin on a Windows computer to continue reading. With an Android phone and a Mac, you can send a draft paragraph through a Pin and copy it into your document on the Mac. Neither workflow requires the two devices to use the same operating system.

For several links about one subject, include a few words explaining each link. That preserves the reason you saved it and makes the handoff more useful than a list of unexplained addresses.

Understand paste and connection behaviour

CrossPin reads clipboard content when you use a paste action. Copying something in another app alone does not put it into CrossPin. On iPhone, the operating system may ask whether to allow a paste; support explains the available paste-permission setting.

Local editing works offline, but changes need a connection to reach another device. CrossPin uses the local network when available and an internet relay when needed. Pin content is encrypted between paired devices during transfer. If the receiving device has not updated, check its connection before copying an older version of the text.

Keep important text elsewhere too

Pins are saved on your devices, and the relay does not provide a cloud backup. Copy important text into your usual saved documents before resetting CrossPin, clearing its storage or replacing a device. Removing a paired device does not erase content it already received. See data controls for preservation and deletion steps and the Privacy Policy for transfer details.
