Share files between your phone and computer

Updated 7 October 2026 · CrossDevApps

CrossPin Premium lets you attach files to Pins and share them with paired devices. Attachments are saved on devices and encrypted between paired devices during transfer. CrossPin uses your local network when available and an internet relay when needed; the relay forwards encrypted traffic and does not store a cloud backup of your files. File sharing requires a connection.

Check the plan and devices first

Attachments are a Premium feature. Free supports up to two total devices for its included features; Premium adds attachments, drawing and up to five total devices. The device used to purchase Premium counts toward that limit. No CrossPin account is required, while payment uses an Apple or Google store account.

CrossPin supports Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Check downloads for your platform and system requirements. Once the app is installed on supported devices, connect them through the QR-code or six-digit-code pairing flow.

Use devices you control and trust. Pairing is permission to share content with a device, so protect the invitation and check which devices are connected before attaching private material.

Move a file with enough context

  1. Open CrossPin on the device holding the file and choose the file through the attachment controls.
  2. Add a short note explaining the file, such as which draft it is or why you need it on the other device.
  3. Keep the devices connected while the attachment transfers.
  4. On the receiving device, check that the attachment is available. Use the available device controls to save a copy if you need it outside CrossPin.

For example, you might attach an image on your phone so you can use it on your computer, or move a document from your computer to your phone for reference. Keep the original until you have checked the received copy. A recognisable filename and a brief note help distinguish a revised document from an earlier version.

Know what the relay does

The relay can forward a transfer when the connection needs it. Pin content and attachments are encrypted before that traffic leaves a device, and the relay lacks the keys needed to read the content. It does not provide a server library of files for later recovery.

That distinction matters when changing devices: uninstalling CrossPin or clearing local storage may destroy locally saved attachments. Pairing another device is not a replacement for a backup. Preserve important original files separately, and read data controls before removing local data.

Check the file itself before sharing or opening

A file can retain embedded metadata, such as the location or date recorded in a photo. CrossPin does not promise to strip that information. Review the original if you need to control what travels with it.

Encrypted transfer also does not establish that a file is safe. CrossPin does not provide antivirus scanning or certify attachments. Be cautious with unexpected files, programs and document macros, even when they arrive from a paired device. See security information for more detail.

When a transfer or Premium feature is unavailable

Check the device connection and whether Premium is verified. Premium periodically requires internet access, and restoration may require the purchase device and its store account. Billing help covers verification and restoration. If you need support, describe the platform, app version, approximate time and error; avoid sending private attachments or pairing codes.
